Edith was born March 24, 1926 in Murray, Utah, to William and Jeanette Lucas. She married John Joseph Aldaya September 3, 1941 in Elko, Nevada. Together they raised 4 children, son John Joseph Aldaya, Jr., of Elko, daughter JoAnn Manning (Dan) of Richfield, Utah, son George Aldaya (Michele) of San Antonio, Texas, and daughter LaRene Regnier (Rob) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Edith also loved her 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by son, John, Jr., in 1963, and her beloved husband of 64 years, John Joseph Aldaya, Sr., in 2005.
She made her home in Elko, Nevada, for 67 years, before moving to San Antonio, Texas, to be close to son George and his family.
Edith was very active in the Gasper J. Salaz VFW Post in Elko, holding all offices locally at one time or another, and was Department President for the Nevada State VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also active with the Elko Basque Club and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elko, and the St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church of San Antonio.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, January 13 at 7:00 P.M. at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX and the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on January 14 at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church, 6150 Roft Road, San Antonio, TX. Her remains will be interned next to her husband John at the Burns Memorial Garden in Elko, Nevada. The graveside service in Elko will be at 2 p.m. on January 21, 2011.
