Jaye was born Edna Borenstein on February 28, 1960 in Mexico City, Mexico. She was the first child of Ana Mostkoff and Dr. Joseph Borenstein.
With her family, she immigrated to the United States in 1968 and became a citizen in 1975, when she started using her name, Jaye, officially. She attended Winston Churchill High School, graduating in 1977. One of the turning points of her life was a trip in 1976 to Europe and the Soviet Union. It was there that she discovered her passion for travel and adventure.
After graduating Churchill as an honor student, she attended Indiana University, Bloomington, IN where she earned a degree in Quantitative Business Analysis. She married her college sweetheart, Russell Stachowski, in 1981.
After a stint at IBM, Greencastle, IN, Jaye and Russell moved to San Francisco where she worked as a project manager at Deloitte Consulting and several other consulting companies. They later divorced and remained good friends.
In San Francisco Jaye met Robert (Bob) Hsia. They married there in 1984 and had three children: Jennifer, Olivia, and Nicholas. Jaye and Bob later moved to Los Angeles and divorced in 2000.
It was in the early years of the Internet that Jaye met Matt Griffin in an online chat room. Over many months of getting to know each other, they decided that it was time to meet. Jaye and Matt were married in the year 2000. They spent the next decade and a half living in Los Angeles and Kingston, NY, finally settling in San Antonio with their dog, Belle. Together Jaye and Matt traveled the world, visiting Mexico, Alaska, Greece, and Egypt.
Jaye was a vivacious woman, generous with her time, and always ready to help anyone in need. She was a determined worker and a lifelong student.
