Edward "Ed" Garza, known affectionately as Eddie to his close friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, at his birthplace and lifelong home of San Antonio, TX. Born on September 4, 1955, Ed's journey through life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, his passion for automobiles, and his generous spirit.
Ed is survived by his wife Tanya Garza, the love of his life and soulmate of 20 years, who stood by his side through every twist and turn of life's highway. He was a devoted father to his son Anthony (Jamie) Garza, his daughters Renee (Adam) Darling and Natalie (Hannah) McGill, and a doting grandfather to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His extended family includes a nephew, numerous nieces and great-nieces, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, countless friends, and his beloved boxer pups, Romeo and Roxy.
Ed is survived by and is reunited in Heaven with his beloved parents and siblings, Javier and Nelly Garza, Victor and Nancy.
A proud veteran, Ed served as a Tech Sergeant in the Air Force, where he was a crew chief on a C5a Galaxy aircraft. His military service was just one chapter in a life filled with achievement. He once held the record for having the fastest C5 Corvette in the state of Texas, a testament to his skills as a very talented and gifted mechanic—a craft he learned from his Godfather, Carlos Diaz, at his gas station. Ed's culinary talents were equally impressive, as he was a phenomenal cook who made all of his dishes from scratch, much to the delight of his family and friends.
Ed's professional life was as varied as it was distinguished. He held numerous awards and accomplishments in real estate and was well-known in the auto industry, having worked locally in San Antonio for the Bachelor, Cavender, and Ancira family of dealerships. His work history and association involvement were a reflection of his diverse interests and included the Texas Corvette Association, a long-standing Texas Real Estate License, and dedicated support to the Lone Star Parkinson’s Society and Rock Steady Boxing Haus, both of New Braunfels.
Ed's zest for life was infectious. He loved his Corvettes and owned many over the years, each one a cherished companion on his many adventures. His interests took him from Friday night cruise-ins to Saturday morning car shows, and weekend racing with his car and Corvette friends. Sundays were reserved for backyard BBQs and swimming with his family, where his love for Corvettes, hotrods, racing, boxer pups, and barbecuing were on full display.
His unique sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities. Ed had the uncanny ability to run into someone he knew wherever he went, whether in San Antonio or while traveling the world. No matter if it had been days or decades since their last encounter, they would always recognize each other and spend time reminiscing about the good old days.
Ed was the embodiment of a loving, friendly, and adventurous spirit. He approached every day with a sense of wonder and excitement, always ready to explore new horizons and make lasting memories. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the open road—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
