

Edward Ortega Mesquiti passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the age of 82 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on November 17, 1938, he is preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian Puente Mesquiti and Cecilia Ortega Mesquiti; his sister, Magdalena Mesquiti; and his brother, Mauro Mesquiti.
Edward was a graduate of Fox Tech High School and attended San Antonio College for a few years. He was a reservist in the United States Marine Corps for six years, he was also an owner of the Mesquiti Box and Crate Company. He worked in Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base from which he retired after serving 38 years. Then, he worked for VIA Transit and as a city employee with the City of San Antonio. Being the hard worker that his family knew him to be. He would also help with his family’s store, Mesquiti Grocery. He loved to try his luck with the lotto and at casinos, he loved playing golf and was an avid chess player, and he also loved shopping at HEB catching up with several HEB employees that grew to be his friends.
He will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Mary S. Mesquiti; his children, Edward Mesquiti Jr. (Cindy), Kenneth Mesquiti (Diann), Steven Mesquiti, Mario Mesquiti and Jo Ann Bolado (Jesse); his grandchildren, Kenneth Jr., Encarnacion, Joshua, Lauren (Troy), and Mario Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Angelina, Ethan and Levi; his brother, Ernest Mesquiti; and his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who loved him.
Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the Visitation at Trevino Funeral Home – 226 Cupples Road 78237 – and the Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church – 1710 Clower 78201– will be limited to 100 people. Face coverings will be required to be worn at all times.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, June 2nd from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. On Thursday, June 3rd, a Funeral Procession will depart at 9:30 AM and arrive at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. The Burial will follow at Mission Burial Park North – 20900 IH-10 West 78257.
