He proudly served 28 years as a pilot in the United States Air Force. After he retired Edward enjoyed golfing and traveling around the country in his RV.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen and daughter Patricia.
Col. Van Sant is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Louise; grandson, MSgt. Michael Van Sant and his wife, Kristin and great-granddaughter Audrey.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
