Our Dad, Efrain Briones, a.k.a. Fred or Chino, of Von Ormy, Texas, went to Glory at 1:38am on Sept. 28, 2026, a month from his 89th birthday, Oct. 25 th (1937). He passed at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital on Hwy 151 with his 5 loving children by his side. His cause of death was pneumonia, not old age. 🤣
Dad was born in Mexico, grew up in Eagle Pass, Texas, and spent his youth migrating annually to Montana and other northern states.
Dad joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and retired 20+ years later. He was an aircraft electrician, which took him to Vietnam and Thailand. Dad always worked two jobs; however, the one he enjoyed most was auto mechanic. He was great at both. Some of his second jobs included full-service gas station attendant, pizza delivery, and commissary bagger. Following his Air Force career, he worked civil service, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.
Dad was a man of few words, but when he spoke his words carried wisdom. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a generous heart, and a warm, unforgettable smile. He found joy in fishing, hunting, camping, spending time with family, watching Carol Burnet Show, Bugs Bunny and sports (Cowboys & Spurs with an ice-cold beer and BBQ on the pit). He had two favorite sayings. “Go To Sleep, Ya!” and “Why That’s Too Much!” from the Price is Right.
We wish to express our greatest gratitude to the staff (housekeepers, CNA, respiratory nurses, RNs, doctors, and Hospice care nurses and staff) at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Westover Hills who tirelessly cared for our father. They were Dad’s angels during his final days. A special thanks to Colonel Dr. Jerry W. Cheatom of SAISD and Quilt of Valor: Garden Ridge Chapter for presenting Dad with a beautiful handmade quilt “From a Grateful Nation” for his service in Vietnam. Also, a big thank you to Student & Academic Support Services of SAISD for the food and beverages they delivered to the hospital for us.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Maria Olga Briones, his grandchildren, Anthony Briones and Toni Lynn McCulloch, his parents, Isaias and Carmen Briones, his siblings: Eliazar Briones, Esteban Briones, and Isaias Briones; his nephews and nieces: Steven A. Briones, Richard Briones, Anita Briones, Rudy Calo’oy Jr., Steve M. Briones, and Ernest Alonso.
