

She was a Canary Island descendant, (Juan Leal Goraz, the first mayor of the civil settlement known as San Fernando de Bexar) one of the first families to settle San Antonio.
She is a 6th generation Texan, and a direct descendant of Jos Antonio Navarro who helped shape the history of Texas; draft the State Constitution; and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
She is the great, great granddaughter of Angel Navarro III, the first Hispanic graduate of Harvard Law School (1849) and the first Harvard graduate from San Antonio. He served as a Texas State Representative from 1857 -1861, and was a Captain in the Texas 8th Infantry. He returned to his law practice in 1865.
Eleanor Navarro Wallace, age 84, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013. She graduated from St. Theresa Academy High School, studied at Incarnate Word College, then pursued advanced courses in Music Theory at Syracuse University in New York.
Eleanor had a passion for classical piano and taught private lessons. Her father was Eugene Navarro, Jr., the owner of Navarro Piano & Organ Company and a descendant of Jose Antonio Navarro, one of the founding families of San Antonio. Eleanor was an avid bowler and golfer; she loved the outdoors and traveling to the ocean, and had an irrepressible spirit of adventure. Eleanor was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Wallace in 1997; her mother, "Connie" Trub Navarro in 2000; and a sister, Alice Green in 2003. She is survived by her son, Eugene Quintanilla (Cynthia), daughter, Tess Hollingsworth (Robert), son, Karl Quintanilla, daughter, Nancy Sandoval, daughter, Diane Wallace, son, Bob Wallace (Annmarie); 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Norma Melchor, Sylvia Tillotson, and Jeannie Navarro; and beloved friend, Pauline Salas and her family.
