

Elena P. Magallan, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and cherished member of her family, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the age of 96. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Elena was born on August 8, 1930, in Driscoll, Texas, to her parents, Damacio Perez and Maria Ysidra Campos.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Magallan Sr.; her son, Simon Magallan Jr.; her daughter, Patricia Magallan Montez; her son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Smith; her great-grandson Simon Magallan IV, and other beloved members of her household, Mary Helen Aguillon and Jose Magallan. Although Mary Helen and Jose were her niece and nephew, they were family in every sense of the word. They grew up in the same household and were deeply loved by Elena.
Elena is survived by her son, David Magallan, and daughter-in-law, Yolanda Magallan; daughter, Yolanda “Pinky” M. Smith; son, Juan “Johnny” Magallan; daughter-in-law, Leticia Magallan; son, Armando Magallan, and daughter-in-law, Kim Magallan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other beloved family members.
Elena had a deep love for reading the Bible, playing lotería, working on puzzles, sewing, quilting, making Christmas stockings, gardening, caring for her plants, cooking, and baking. She was especially famous for her homemade tamales, cookies, pies, enchiladas, and pancakes. Her cooking was one of the many ways she showed her family how much she loved them.
Elena loved watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. Her favorite Spurs player was Manu Ginóbili. She also enjoyed watching the Houston Astros, Texas Longhorns, Houston Texans, UTSA Roadrunners, and just about any other Texas team. She enjoyed many other sports as well, including ice skating and golf.
When she wasn't watching sports, Elena could often be found enjoying her favorite telenovelas while eating her favorite ice cream. During the day, she made time to exercise or ride her stationary bike while listening to music.
Elena loved music, especially mariachi music. One of her favorite artists was Vicente Fernández, and she enjoyed songs such as Por Tu Maldito Amor, El Rey, and Volver, Volver.
Above all, Elena loved her family. She had an immense love for everyone, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was loving, caring, and welcoming to everyone she met. Elena had a special way of making people feel loved, comfortable, and at home.
Her love, strength, kindness, and beautiful spirit will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238, on Wednesday October 14, 2026 from 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church located on 1710 Clower Street San Antonio, Texas 7820, following with a Graveside Service at San Fernando Cemetery 2, 746 Castroville Road San Antonio, Texas 78237.
