

Elizabeth Betty Corwin Culbertson, age 95, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on February 7, 2009, after a long illness. Betty was born on September 30, 1913, to Ada Clark Corwin and George Douglas Corwin in Carthage, Missouri. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter. She graduated from Main Avenue High School in San Antonio continued her education at Incarnate Word College now University of the Incarnate Word, where she received her B.S. degree in 1935. She married the love of her life, Clarence Stewart Culbertson in October 1936. Betty was a loving, caring, gentle lady and always put others first. She was renowned for her kind spirit by all who knew her. She loved her church and was a faithful member of the same congregation for over seventy years. Outside her family and church, her passion was classical and sacred music. She was an active volunteer for the community, serving more than twenty five years as a Blue Bird Volunteer at the Methodist Hospital. Her other long time memberships included the Tuesday Musical Club, Delta Gamma Alumnae, San Antonio Symphony Society and the Alamo Chapter DAR. Betty was predeceased by her parents, her three brothers, her son-in-law, John Croisant, and her husband, Clarence, who died in 1996. She is survived by her four daughters and respective sons-in-law: Carol and Bill Coker, Seguin, TX; Joan and Sam Dibrell, Dr. Clare Laminack, San Antonio, TX, and Julie Croisant, Humboldt, KS. Grandchildren include Catherine Coker Morris and husband, Doug, Chelsea, Al; Elizabeth Libby Coker, Motta Sant' Anastacia, Sicily; Suzanne Coker Goodenough and husband, Andrew; Sam Dibrell, Jr. and wife, Virginia O'Gorman Dibrell, San Antonio, TX; Kellis Debrell, Dallas, TX; Julie Laminack Sphar and husband, Tim, Ft.Worth, TX; Bowie Croisant and wife, Shannon Heavey Croisant, Kansas City, MO; and Bonnie Croisant; Lawrence, KS. Great grandchildren include Kylie Catherine Cooper, Jonathan Sphar, Lauren Elizabeth Sphar, Charles Goodenough, William Goodenough, Eleanor Elizabeth Dibrell, and Baby Clarabella Croisant. She is also survived by one cousin, Martha Jane Jensen; of Carthage, MO. Betty was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Her enthusiasm and friendly spirit endeared her to everyone with whom she came in contact. The family is most grateful for the loving care Betty received from employees and volunteers at the Village of Incarnate Word, where she lived for the past seven years, as well as the staff and volunteers with Christus Hospice, VNA. Special caregivers and friends include Mary Navarro, Dinah Tanner, and Aleene Block.
