Elizabeth Louise Doherty

Elizabeth Fowler "Betty" Doherty, 88, peacefully went to heaven on Friday, July 11, 2008. Born on October 18, 1919 in Ballinger, Texas, Betty was valedictorian of her senior class at Ballinger High School.

She then went on to become a Registered Nurse. On April 15, 1942, she married John Doherty. Thanks to the sacrifices of their parents, their four sons all earned college degrees. She was an inaugural member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John G. Doherty.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; John and Elaine Doherty, Mickey and Shirley Doherty, Dr. Tom and Marguerite Doherty, and Dr. Jim Doherty. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Frances Doherty; grandchildren, John Doherty III, Paul Doherty, Michelle and Scott Noel, Dr. Debra Doherty, Lisa Doherty, Katie and Jonathan Edge, Allie Doherty and Sean Doherty; and great-grandchildren, Emily Noel, Caitlin Noel and Andrew Noel. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothea Heye and numerous nephews and nieces. She was noted for her sense of humor and her beautiful smile. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
