Elizabeth J. "Betty" Glascock, age 85, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Betty was born July 27, 1921, in Mobile, Alabama to the late James and Josephine McEwen.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, LTC Ret Charles L. Glascock, whom she met during World War II. Betty's family moved to Fredericksburg, Texas in 1929 when her father became the accountant for the railroad there.
After graduation from Fredericksburg High School in 1938 she entered Incarnate Word College and Santa Rosa Nursing School. Upon graduation as a registered nurse, she was commissioned a 2nd LT. in the U.S. Army.
She cared for combat casualties in hospitals in Wales and England from late 1943 to the end of World War II in 1945. In the summer of 1945, she was assigned to the first American units to enter Berlin and helped establish American hospitals there.
She married Charles L. Glascock in December of 1945. They returned to Germany in 1949-1951 and again in 1955-1958, with their young children, as part of the American Army of occupation. Betty's ability to speak German was always an asset while living and traveling in Europe.
In 1971, Charles and Betty bought and restored an 1850's German settler's rock home outside of Fredericksburg. Many weekends, over the next 35 years, were spent visiting with family, friends and classmates at the "Ranch" in Fredericksburg.
Betty was always the person her family and friends could rely on to be there for them. Her calm and reassuring way was always there when needed. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1958.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Glascock Kopplow and husband, Ed; and son, James W. Glascock and wife, Amber; grandchildren, Carrie Kopplow Green and her husband, Tommy, Edward K. Kopplow, Jr and Nora Glascock; great grandchildren, Caroline, Katherine and Elizabeth Green; brother, James J. McEwen; and many nieces and nephews.
