

Elizabeth E. Hallmark, age 78, of San Antonio, died Sunday, March 15, 2009. She was born December 21, 1930 in Norman, Okalahoma to Jack and Hazel Austin who have predeceased her. She was a resident of San Antonio with husband Philip P. Hallmark who preceded her in death. A graduate of Alamo Heights High School and recent co-chair of their 60th reunion, she also completed her marketing degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio. In addition to her professional career, she was active at Trinity Baptist Church of San Antonio. She dedicated herself to the San Antonio State School (SASS) and their Volunteer Services Council (VSC). She was an integral part of the opening of the state school and worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for the residents. As board member of the VSC she was a driving force behind the creation of the well-loved memorial garden, co-founder of the successful annual SASS Fiesta event and editor for the Horizon's Newsletter. As a family member she was active in the Parent Association for Retarded Texans. She received multiple longevity awards for her volunteer services, including Volunteer of the Year for the State of Texas bestowed by then Governor Ann Richards. She was recently nominated for the San Antonio MLK distinguished achievement award. Survivors include her daughter, Amy Hallmark; her daughter, Susan Hallmark and husband, David Bargainer; granddaughter, Laura Glascock; sister, Sarah Scoggins; brother, John Austin; and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
