

Elizabeth Love Sawyer of San Antonio passed away on January 26, 2005. She was born on February 4, 1917 in Fredericksburg, TX.
She was the daughter of Homer T. Love and Hedwig Marschall Love. She was the great granddaughter of John O. Meusebach, founder of Fredericksburg, and William Marschall von Bieberstein, both early settlers in the Hill Country.
Her grandfather Richard A. Love and father Homer T. Love built the Fredericksburg and Northern Railroad. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and the University of Texas at Austin. In 1939 she married Lt. Ted I. Sawyer USMA class of 1938 and accompanied him to many interesting stations in the U.S. and overseas.
After Col. Sawyer's retirement in 1968 they returned to San Antonio. They continued to travel to Europe, the Near East, and South America. Elizabeth was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, San Antonio Conservation Society, Military Civilian Club, and the McNay Art Museum, where she was a library volunteer for many years.
She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed other interests such as golf, reading, crossword puzzles, needlework, and gardening. Elizabeth was devoted to her family. She had a positive outlook on life and a keen sense of humor. She was a lady in every way.
She was appreciated for her exceeding kindness to others, and admired for her great courage and determination. Elizabeth enjoyed many close friendships.
She was deeply loved and will be fondly missed by all. She was preceded in death by Col. Sawyer, her parents, and her brother, Homer T. Love, Jr.
She is survived by her son, John M. Sawyer and wife, Carol; her daughter, Susan Sawyer Klish and husband, John; grandchildren, Timothy M. Sawyer and wife, Jennifer, Pamela Sawyer and Andrew Klish; and great grandchildren, Nathan and Benjamin Sawyer.
Family and Friends will miss her deeply. She will be cherished and will remain in their hearts forever.
