Elizabeth Steves Shannon was born on July 9, 1945 and died on June 16, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. She was known as Liz to her many friends and family, and known as Izzie to beloved grandchildren. She was a dependable and loyal friend, sister, mother and grandmother, always ready to lend a hand, share a conversation, a laugh, or a shoulder.
All who were blessed to spend time with her will never forget her ability to energize a room, her warm generosity, her quick and charming wit and addictive spirit. People wanted to be around her because she made us all better.
She was an accomplished and appreciated interior decorator, cook and hostess. She loved to road trip with her friends and sisters. There was nothing that warmed her heart more than a hug, a birthday card, to finish the daily word puzzles before her sisters so she could tease them with clues the rest of the day, to celebrate holidays with family, to play "hand and foot" with friends, to visit with her sons and daughter-in-law, and to spend time with her grandchildren.
Throughout all, she inspired us by her devotion to her Catholic faith. We have lost an irreplaceable best friend. She loved us all so much. She was a descendent of two early Texas families; the Canary Islanders who were among the founders of San Antonio, and of the settlers of San Patricio County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Bell and Joan Cahill Steves.
She is survived by her two beloved sons, Clyde Frederick Shannon, III and Samuel Bell Steves Shannon, and his wife Kristen Reser Shannon, and her grandchildren Hannah Corrigan Shannon and Graham Samuel Shannon; her sisters Joan Steves Devine, Bebe Steves Rosser and her husband Virgil, Martha Steves Baker and her husband Del, Julie Steves Powers and her husband Greg, and her many and much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
