Betty was born in Danville, Virginia and it was there that she met her husband, Bill, in 1952. They moved to Austin in 1967, where she resided most of the rest of her life. Betty worked in banking most of her working career. She then worked for the law firm, Gray and Becker, which she loved, for 10 years before retiring in 2001.
She was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church for over 40 years and loved being involved in almost every capacity at the church, including wedding coordinator which she enjoyed immensely. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Loaves and Fishes. Her faith and her church were very important in her life. Betty loved being among family and friends and had a keen sense of humor. Betty had a loving, caring and generous heart.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Carter Norris and her husband King; her granddaughter, Laura Fahey; and her sister, Anne Leyden. Betty thought of her nieces and nephew as her own children and they include: Bette Boyd and her children Sara and Margaret; Sara Burns and her children Megan and Matthew; Philip Bush, his wife Pam and their daughters Elizabeth and Emily; and Julia Lindow, her husband Mark and their daughter Laura. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Edna and Harry Brewer; her daughter, Laura Thorp; and niece, Anne Stewart Tepichin, but is survived by Anne's husband, Gonzalo and their sons Philip, Benjamin, Stewart and Chris and their families. Betty was loved by her family and many friends and she will be deeply missed.
