Elodia G. Cantu

In loving memory of Elodia Maria del Refugio Gutierrez Cantu born on February 18, 1930 in Zapata County, Texas. After graduating from Rio Grande City High School, she moved to San Antonio where she worked as the secretary to the director of Accounting and Finance at Randolph AFB in San Antonio. Know to those she loved as “Lodi, she dedicated herself to various roles from active volunteering to serving on the board at the San Antonio State School. Lodi’s passion extended to being an avid San Antonio Spurs fan, earning her the esteemed title of Fan of the Year, with special recognition and a memorable lunch with Peter Holt. After retirement, she continued her commitment, working as a translator for the Social Security Administration and Immigration and Naturalization Service lawyer and for The Recorder, a community newspaper, and later as a substitute for the Northeast Independent School District. She especially enjoyed time with her friends at the Walker Ranch Senior Center. Lodi, alongside her husband, Tony, exemplified compassion by supporting burned and crippled children through the Alzafar Shrine Hospital Corp, providing transportation to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Her love for bingo and cherished moments with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought immense joy to her life. Elodia is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia Horgan (Timothy) and Christina Lynch (Darrell), grandchildren Lisa Barnes (Clifton) , Luke Lynch, Skyler Simmons, Devin Lynch and Zachary Lynch. Two great-grandchildren, Blake Barnes and Piper Barnes. Brothers Eduardo Gutierrez, Derly Gutierrez (Ernestina) and sister, Rosaura Gallegos and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24th from 10:30-11:30 am in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary Service at 11:30 am and the Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 pm.
