Eloise Ann Chavez gained her angel wings and entered into the loving arms of Our Lord on December 18, 2024 at the age of 81. Eloise’s journey began in San Antonio, Texas on March 23,1943 to Elpidio Martinez, Jr. and Rebecca Casarez. She was the second child. Since her birth, Eloise was poised to lead a life that was enriched by her family and friends. She shared her inner light and joy with all who knew her.
To those who knew her, she was quiet and observed everyone and everything. Once she chose to engage and make friends, you became a friend for life, you became most important to her. She loved to laugh and she surrounded herself with good people! The stories of her life experiences were amazing from her childhood, dallying with wanting to smoke and her father ensuring that she would never smoke again. To her teenage years, where she and her group of friends from Incarnate Word High School took a nun’s dressing, robe and habit, and left school to eat at Earl Abel's (right across the street from the school). They were laughing and having a good time, until they opened up a carton of cigarettes and lit them up! To the chagrin of all there, it was decided to call the Convent at Incarnate Word and soon the Principal and the actual nuns came through the front door! The fun was over and they found themselves in the Principal’s office with a call to the girl's parents! Our grandmother didn’t tolerate that behavior and let’s just say that Mom couldn’t sit comfortably for days! She was close friends with the daughter of the owner of Max Martinez Funeral Home and decided it would be fun to go for a joy ride using the funeral home’s hearse! We would have never survived our childhood had we done the things she did!
She loved to travel and loved the outdoors, including boating and fishing! Many summers and weekends were spent at Medina Lake and the Texas Coast, Rockport was her favorite place. She also enjoyed visiting Nuevo Laredo, where she personally developed a bond and long lasting friendships with the merchants! Our Mother loved barbequing, to include the smell of mesquite and oak which reminded her of the many cookouts at the park and at Medina Lake! She will be forever remembered by her beautiful smile, wit, humor, and the joy she brought to people’s lives. Our Mother was the life of the party and her contagious laugh and presence was like no other, she radiated. Her fierce love of her family, her children, grandchildren and dear friends will forever be remembered and memories spent together will be cherished. Her loving and genuine gestures of comfort and support will truly be missed by all. Our Mother was a force to be reckoned with, she lived her life on her terms, and set an example of what an independent and strong woman embodied.
Her memory will forever live on in her Son, Christopher Hopkins; Daughter, Andrea Chavez; Daughter-in-Law, Annette G. Hopkins; Angel Morales (significant other to her daughter); Grandchildren, Lauren Hopkins, Julian Torres, Ileana Torres, Xavier Torres, Hannah Hopkins, Annalyce Hopkins, Gilbert K. Gallego and Great Grandchild, Samantha Hopkins. She will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of the staff and circle of friends at Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior One-Stop Center. The more she attended the center, the closer she became and soon they became a second family to her! To Trinity Hospice in San Antonio; Christine, Jorge, Brittany, Tamara, Laura; and Abode End of Life Facility; Beverly, Anthony, John, and Leticia, all of the care and love she received far exceeded any expectations and is well appreciated by the family!
