'David:

You may not recall but you and I had an advanced Marketing Class together at St. Mary's University in 1967/68 and we had to jointly do a term paper/project for the class as a two man team on whether HemisFair 1968 would be a financial success or not. Using various statistics, we determined that it would be a financial success. I don't recall what our grade was on the project.

Fast forwarding some 10 years, our Uzzell Family tradition, from roughly 1978-1994, was to usually eat at Mi Tierra Restaurant nearly every Friday night as sort of an end of the week routine/reward for a hard week's work or school.

During these Friday night visits, you were usually holding court with your fellow restaurant owners/associates like Hans Nadler, Balous Miller, et al, plus your friends/family members at a table in the original center section of the restaurant that I had to walk by to get to a table in the large back party room (my preferred seating area). 

You were usually too busy chatting with his guest(s) to do more than merely say Hi to me or my family or maybe just wave.
However, as best I recall, your wife Elva, always went out of her way to smile and say Hi' even though I did not know heror at least I thought I didn't. 
Upon reading her obituary, I was surprised to learn (and I never previously knew it) that she had graduated from my old alma mater, Harlandale High School, in 1962. 
Of course, I graduated in 1964, so she was a senior when I was a sophomore.

Having only briefly met and usually speaking to Elva on many of our Friday night trips to Mi Tierra (when you was holding court), I recall that she always had a smile and was friendly to me and my family, even though she only/barely knew me through you (I doubt she remembered me from Harlandale). 

Elva would usually mention something positive about my kids' curly hair, etc. just to strike up a conversationso I have to agree with the comment in her guest book link that she made
people feel welcomed in the sincerest meaning of the word. Additionally, my then wife, Barbara, taught one of your children, Angelica, math at Clark High School.
At the time, (1976-1984), Barbara and our two children also lived in the Colonies North Subdivision as one of your many neighbors before we move to Crownridge (1985-1994).

Anyway, living in Dallas since 1994, I was surprised to learn of Elva's passing from a San Antonio friend of mine. 
I had no idea Elva was even ill, but I haven't been to Mi Tierra in about 2 months (January 3rd, 2015).
However, Estelle and I did see you on our last visit there in early January; and, we asked about the health status of one of our favorite waiters, Manuel Castro. 
But, we had no idea of Elva's condition.

All of the above to merely say that my current wife, Estelle and I, would like to express our condolences to both you and your children on the passing of the most integral part of your family, your wife, and their mother.

We are so sorry to hear of Elva's passing.
May she rest in peace.'

'I had the pleasure of calling her my Aunt Elva. I have such fond memories of her in my childhood as well as the present. She was always so very loving, kind and giving to her family and friends. Her smile could always brighten up a room. While visiting her during her illness, I was always blesed and inspired by her faith in God. The word of God along with hymns of praise were always her conversation. She holds a dear place in my heart!'

I played bunco with Elva and her cousins because I worked with her cousin Eloise. My condolences to her relatives. Elva was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
