Elvia Mercedes Davis was born on December 17, 1962, to Milton Davis and Etheline L. Peters (both deceased) in Panama City, Republic of Panama. She was the youngest of her siblings Felicidad Johnson, Tyrone Peters, Fernando Peters and Xiomara Davis-Gumbs.
Her early education was received at Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal in Panama City, Panama. In 1976, she migrated to the United States with her sister Xiomara to join her mother and other siblings. She continued her education at Lefferts Junior High and Prospect High Schools, both in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating, she continued her post-secondary education at New York University in New York City, NY.
"Eli", as she was fondly known to many, dated and subsequently married Gilberto Gonzalez in 1983, relocating to San Antonio, Texas. From that union she was blessed with two children: Gilberto Gonzalez, Jr. (Tito) and Talitha Gonzalez.
Elvia earned her bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration as well as a second bachelors degree in Spanish before working as a Spanish teacher at the Elementary School level for several years.
Elvia proudly served as an Aeromedical Specialist for four years in the United States Air Force from 1987 to 1991, being honorably discharged as a Senior Airman. After completing her masters degree in Educational Leadership, she worked for Child Protective Services representing children within the CPS system who have special needs in the classroom. Elvias love of teaching language and continued sense of pride in the US Armed Forces took her to the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) or DLI. There, Elvia taught basic to advanced English to pilots, special forces operators, medical personnel, and many other military personnel representative of Americas allied nations from across the globe. Her exemplary work also positioned Elvia to develop Advanced English Curriculum and travel as part of Mobile Training Teams to Azerbaijan and twice to Qatar.
The most important subject Elvia taught and lived was her Faith in Jesus Christ, and her dearest students were her own children Gilberto, Jr. (Tito) and Talitha. Throughout her adult life, Elvia faithfully participated in a handful of church bodies in the San Antonio area, most recently as a member at Discover Church in Castroville, Texas.
Elvia was her childrens biggest fan, champion, and prayer warrior. She gave her all to ensure the best life possible for them on this Earth and instilled Faith, so that they would know shell continue to be these things as she joins the Saints who have gone before us to be with Our Lord.
On Friday, October 8, 2021, Elvia successfully completed her mission, here, on earth and our Heavenly Father took her home to glory to be with Him and, no doubt her parents, grandparents, other family members and friends.
Elvia will be sadly missed by her children: Gilberto, Jr. and Talitha (Blair); her granddaughters: Eliya Ryan and Brooklyn Luisa; her siblings: Felicidad, Tyrone, Fernando (Nancy) and Xiomara (Audland), aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Discover Church in Castroville, Texas.
