Luz Emelda Esparza was called home to the Lord on May 28, 2026. Born on June 27, 1957, Emelda—affectionately known as “Mel” to her family and friends—lived a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering devotion to those around her.
Mel was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan who never passed up an opportunity to share a good laugh, enjoy her favorite iced cold Coca - Cola or occasional margarita with loved ones. Her vibrant spirit and joyful presence left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Fiercely loyal and deeply family-oriented, Mel cherished time spent with those she loved and made it her mission to always be there for them.
Throughout her life, Mel lovingly cared for her nieces, nephews, and the children of extended family and friends. She became a surrogate mother and a trusted confidante to many, offering guidance, comfort, and unconditional love. To countless individuals, she was not only family, but also a best friend.
Mel’s faith was central to her life. She generously volunteered her time at St. John Berchmans Church, serving as a catechism teacher and as a proud Guadalupana. Her dedication to her church and her service to others reflected her deep spiritual commitment.
Her impact extended far beyond her immediate circle, and the love she gave will continue to be felt for generations to come.
Mel is preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo Z. and Alicia M. Esparza, and her brother, Joe Esparza. She is survived by her siblings: Richard (Annie), Christina, Paul (Rosemary), Alice, and Mark (Valerie) Esparza, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family across Texas, North Carolina, and Mexico.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
