

Emily Hamby Gunn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend entered eternal rest July 28, 2011. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Lurline Saltonstall Hamby and Henry Clarence Hamby on September 10, 1918 and grew up in San Marcos, TX. Emily was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband of 54 years, W. Guy Gunn. She and Guy met and married in Texas, moved to Washington DC in 1956 and to Harrisburg, PA in 1961 when Guy accepted a position as Executive Vice President of the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors. Guy served in that position for 19 years and Emily was lovingly considered the First Lady of APC. Emily and Guy traveled the world and welcomed the opportunity to develop new friendships and experiences. Emily is survived by her son, Richard Popps of San Antonio, TX and his children, Boyd Popps and wife, Laura, Jenny Solomon and husband, Terry. She is also survived by her son, Greg Gunn of Camp Hill, PA and wife, Val, and his children, Nick and Emily Jane Gunn. She also has five great-grandchildren. Her high energy earned her the family nickname “Go Go”. Emily possessed a wonderful sense of humor and love of laughter. Her many friends and family fondly remember her delight in sharing funny stories-often at her own expense. She was independent minded and forthright and had a kindhearted and generous nature. Emily was a member of the Alamo Height Methodist Church and San Antonio Women’s Club. She was also a former member of the San Antonio Music Club, West Shore Country Club, Northcliff Country Club, The Petroleum Club, and the “K” Club. She was an avid reader and loved to play bridge and golf. She was the devoted caretaker of her beloved husband in his final years. Her great love of her family and passion for them will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
