

Emily was born in Galesburg, IL, on July 5, 1962. She graduated from Geneva, Illinois High School, where the mayor, Kevin Burns, has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff. She received her BA from Trinity University. She was active in the PTA at Oak Meadow Elementary School, and the Junior League of San Antonio. Emily was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, was an outdoor enthusiast and avid gardener.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Thomas William Herrick, Jr; a son, Thomas William Herrick III; a daughter, Hailey Madelyne Herrick; her parents, F. Byron and Geraldine A. Nelson; five brothers, Donald Nelson, F. Byron Nelson, Jr., Charles Nelson, Thomas Nelson, and Jack Nelson; a sister, Christine Frailey; three sisters-in-law, Cheryl Herrick, Kimberly Knotter, and Mary Lou Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and doctors of South Texas Oncology and Hematology for their friendship, love and supportive efforts.
