Emma was born December 13, 1940 in San Antonio, TX, the oldest of four children of Alfredo and Ofilia Flores. As a young child, Emma moved to Saginaw, Michigan where she would meet the love of her life, Carny, at the age of 14. It was fitting, with the familys lifelong association with the music industry, that Emma and Carny got to know one another through their high school band. They were so certain about their feelings for each other that when Emma moved back to San Antonio after dating for only a year; this amazing love affair continued long distance until the couple got married back in Saginaw on January 10, 1959. Saginaw continued to be the family home for the next eleven years, during which time Emma and Carny were blessed with five beautiful daughters.
In December of 1970, Emma moved with the family to Laredo, TX in support of her husband to pursue a dream of building an entertainment business. And support him she did; she was instrumental in making the dream a reality. Emma was not only a loving wife and mother, she worked side by side with Carny and was critical to the success of the family business. The pair started in the ballroom business by developing the Casa Blanca Ballroom in Laredo and later purchasing the famous Yellow Rose in Corpus Christi. In 1979, Carny and Emma added radio stations to the family business by starting Radio Cannon, and in the late 1980s, built Guerra Communications, which include Laredos Z-93 and Big Buck Country, along with Corpus Christis The Bomb, among its stations.
In retirement, Emma enjoyed traveling the world with Carny (especially Vegas!) and co-hosting annual family summer trips to Mexico and the Caribbean for dozens of family members; the memories of which will be treasured for the rest of our lives. But Emmas real passion in retirement was her family, especially her 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. "Gimma" truly loved spoiling her family and nothing made her happier than playing with the youngest kids.
Emma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carny Guerra; and five daughters, Cindy (Dave) Mozingo, Sylvia (Rudy) Vasquez, Judith (John) Melick, Belinda (Russell) Meurer, and Elaine Guerra. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mariza (Mike) Villa, Sarah (Jason) Donahue, Polo (Shelby) Gutierrez, Chris Guerra, Steven Vasquez, Renee Vasquez, Rudee Vasquez, Alexandra Melick, Katherine Melick, John Melick IV, Andrew Melick, Brittnee (Jeff) Housner, Matthew Bryan, Emma Meurer, Darrian (Carlos) Hornedo, Kina Matthews, Jada Matthews, and Bella Matthews.
