Emma C. Peña, born on April 3, 1924, has gone to be with our Lord on November 6, 2020 at the age of 96 years old. Born to parents Cayetano Tomas Canales and Rosa Morales Canales, Emma resided in Benavides, TX with her four siblings, Alma, Rosa, Mariana, and Roel. Emma worked at the post office in Benavides, TX. On April 17, 1949, Emma married the love of her life Genaro Everett Peña, from San Diego, TX. The couple moved to Corpus Christi, TX, where they lived for nine years and had four of their six children. They then moved to San Antonio, TX, where they lived happily throughout the remainder of their lives and added two more children to their family. She took a job as a school crossing guard for 4 years. She then went on to work for a radiology group as a billing clerk for several years until she became a full time housewife. Her loving, caring, and light-hearted thirst for life, has impacted many people in her lifetime and will live on through happy memories shared by family and friends that have had the pleasure of being a part of her life for so many years. She was a great role model in the lives of all her children and grandchildren holding them to the highest standard to treat others with kindness and integrity. She was an avid sports enthusiast and had the honor of meeting her favorite Spurs player, David Robinson. Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Cayetano and Rosa, her sisters, Maria "Mariana" Luisa and Rosa Gloria, her loving husband of 70 years, Genaro, and her youngest daughter, Susan Marie Peña. Loved my Aunt Em who when she and my mom Alma got together reminded me of Lucy and Ethel in “I Love Lucy” show. They had a way of cracking us up with jokes or just being plain silly. Mom always admired and looked up to her big sister Emma and you could feel the love they had for one another when in their presence. An Aunt of mine, Sylvia Morales, told me a story about the two. She said when she was a little girl she loved when Aunt Em and mom would visit Momo Grande’s house. They were always buying her nice dresses and shoes as presents. As she told the story she was crying remembering how much they loved her. May my Aunt Em Rest In Peace forever with the angels. ❤️

Grandma,

The amount of memories we have together are endless. From our endless summer sleepovers, pecan picking afternoons, or just going to visit. These memories will last in my heart forever. I miss you so much, but I’m so thankful and so glad you are finally reunited with the love of your life. Thank you for showing me what true love is and thank you for showing me what it means to care for others. I hope I make you proud by continuing to be your “little Mariana”. I love you mucho mucho.

I was lucky to work near my Mom's house so I got to have lunch with my Mom and Dad every day. I treasured those times and my Dad loved them too because if I didn't go they would have sandwiches. My Mom would sacrifice all for her kids. Family first, then her. I love you Mom mucho mucho. Give Dad and Sue a big hug and kiss from me and I'll see you all soon. I carry you in my heart and the smile on my face is because I'm thinking of you. ❤

I love you Mom. I was lucky to work so close to my Mom's house that I got to go to her house and eat lunch everyday with her and Dad. I treasured everyday, and the wonderful lunches she made. Of course my Dad loved it cause they would have eaten sandwiches if I didn't go. My mom sacrificed her own needs always for her kids. I love you mucho mucho. You are in my heart always. Kiss Dad and Sue for me, until we meet again. ❤
