Mr. Barrera, as I knew him in my Jr High years Mr. Barrera was my math teacher and I learn a lot from him, I looked forward to his class and I hated math but his teaching methods intrigued me and I actually liked math after sitting in his class for a whole year I never forgot what he deposited in us all but he was more than that he was a friend and a mentor too and thought us history, culture and to take pride in the way we lived. He was a great man

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the entire Barrera family. We had only met Mr. Barrera a few times but we have known his grandson Cliff for many years. We knew how much he loved and admired his grandfather and rightly so. Having lost our own grandmother in Del Rio on the same day we were unable to attend the services. Cliff we love you and we will always be here for you.

I would like to extend my condolences to the Barrera family, and would like to let you all know what a great man we lost. Mr Barrera was always involved in the community and he represented his community very well. Mr Barrera had served his community very well and wished that we had more people like him. When I heared of his passing I just came to a stop and what came to thought was that we lost a great leader and he will be missed and loved very dearley. I first met Enrique when I worked with him at the "War on Poverty" in San Antonio. He was a great teacher to me as he taught me about the Westside of San Antonio and Hispanic Culture there. He was patient and kind to a "Gringo" who had a lot to learn. I dearly appreciated Enrique'scommitment to solving the "Poverty Problems" and his lasting friendship. 
When I ran a State Agency TDCA for Gov. Mark White I coerced Enrique to 
come to work for me and he did and brought his skills of dealing with people and did a great job. 
So my old friend I say goodbye to you,wish you God's Grace and say thank you for being my co-worker, teacher and FRIEND!! Bob Williams

When we think of Councilman Barrera, we think first of what a quiet presence he was. Of someone who took the time to hear all sides and to see what was best for the community. He had many meetings to bring people together to voice their opinions and work together towards something. We especially remember him with each rain, as he worked to raise the curb levels and improve the drainage on our street. Without that help I would have had water in my house many times this summer. I also remember his support and help in getting the Guerra Library built and full of books and programing for the area. Not to mention his support of education. We could talk for a long time and not touch on all the wonderful things he did in his lifetime. He will be very missed and much remembered.

My sympathy to the family. He is no longer in pain. He lives with God and angels just like my son.

I was a preschool student of Mrs. Barrera in 1976. My mother, Irene Vargas, recently passed of a 4 1/2 year battle with stage 5 ovarian cancer and finally became nontreatable when she contracted full blown cancer in the bone marrow as well. She went to be with the Lord on July 25th, 2007. 
My father, Antonio C. Vargas and myself were deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Our hearts are swelled with sympathy. Our prayers are the same for you as for ourselves...for the strength to get through one day at a time, the peace of knowing that our loved ones are no longer suffering and the hope that we will one day all be united for an eternity.

Leti and Family, May all of you find the strength to continue on with your dearly departed's bravado and determination for life without him, especially you, Leti. I shall always remember Enrique, ever since childhood, with much respect equal to the respect he showed my family and myself, and all the community, especially the Catholic community, where he served so well. May all of you rejoice for the life he shared with all of you and may you find comfort knowing he has finally found his due peace with Our Father. God Bless,

I remember "Henry" very well, from San Felipe to Sully and San Antonio...He was always someone you could count on to help ...I especially remember him helping raise funds for his children's Catholic School... Enrique was very unique. We worked together at the State and when I left Austin to come and work in San Antonio, he encouraged it. He was truly patience and loving and always willing to listen. I have yet to meet anyone that has or had this kind of presence. Enrique was a kind and gentle man who had a passion for helping others. I learned much from working with him because of this. He will be deeply missed. My prayers are with you and your family. May God keep you and your family safe.
