

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Enrique "Joe Henry" Gonzalez, who left us peacefully on January 4, 2025, in Pflugerville, Texas. Born on October 23, 1945, in Kingsville, Texas, Joe Henry was a man of integrity and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Joe Henry was the beloved husband of Ida Arguelles Gonzalez and a devoted father to his daughters, Joanda (Rene) Zuniga, Danielle Gonzalez, and Veronica (Josh) Richards. He was a devoted grandfather to Valerie Jo (Josh) Rosario, Rene Jerel Zuniga, Cassandra Rae Zuniga, Joseph Henry Zuniga, Jack Henry Gonzalez, Evan Manuel Gonzalez and Jake Joseph Gonzalez. He was great grandfather to Caleb, Jeremiah, Jazlene, Kimberly, Kathleen, Kira, JaylaJo, Kevin, Journey, and Eleanor. He also leaves behind his cherished sisters, Ruth (Darrell) Wolff and Norma (Albert) Gamez, his sister in law, Lucy Gonzalez, his beloved aunt, Tia Fina Guzman, beloved nieces and nephews, and many beloved cousins. His legacy of love and strength continues through his family, including his adored grandchildren, whom he supported with unwavering pride at every possible opportunity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique "Henry" and Beatriz Gonzalez, his brother, EA Gonzalez, his stepmother, Felipa Gonzalez, his first wife, Yolanda Rodriguez, his maternal grandparents, Enemencio and Francisca "Panchita" Cabrera, his paternal grandparents, Antonio and Sensoria Gonzalez, his brothers in law, Conrado Villarreal and Felix Morales, as well as several special aunts, uncles, and cousins who held significant places in his heart.
Joe Henry's educational journey led him to earn his Journeyman's Certificate at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, which set the foundation for his lifelong career. An accomplished carpenter, he exhibited a remarkable work ethic and dedication to his craft. His career took a new direction after an accident, which saw him establishing his own small construction business. In time, he joined forces with his father to create the E. Gonzalez and Son Construction Company.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joe Henry's greatest joy was his family. His love for them knew no bounds, and he was a constant fixture at his grandchildren's school and sporting events. Known as the loudest and proudest grandpa, his booming voice and beaming smile were unmistakable in the crowd. Joe Henry's enthusiasm and support were a source of inspiration and comfort to his family, and his presence will be profoundly missed.
Joe Henry lived a life marked by generosity, resilience, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to those he loved. He was a man who constructed not just buildings, but also a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication that will stand the test of time.
As we bid farewell to Joe Henry, we take comfort in the knowledge that his journey was full of love, laughter, and meaningful connections. He has left a void that cannot be filled. Joe Henry's story does not end here; it lives on in the countless lives he has influenced and the family he so dearly loved.
Rest in peace, Joe Henry. Your journey on this earth was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and your spirit will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, Texas, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A procession will leave Porter Loring Mortuary at 12:00 p.m. The Rosary will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, located at 7990 W Military Drive, San Antonio, and the funeral mass will immediately follow. His pallbearers will be grandsons, R.J. and Joey Zuniga, Jack Henry, Evan and Jake Gonzalez, his nephews, Sonny Villarreal and Joshua Wolff, and his son in law, Josh Richards
There will not be a burial as Joe Henry chose to be cremated. A reception will follow at the home of his daughter, Joanda.
