Rocky was born on January 28, 1955 to Jesus Montalvo and Gregoria Jimenez. After Rocky graduated from McCollum High School in 1973, he served in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1978. He went on to study computer technology at San Antonio College. He held numerous positions in the information and technology services field; however he was most recognized for his nearly 35 years of service at the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).
Rocky was survived by his eldest daughter Graciela “Grace” Gonzalez, her husband Daniel Gonzalez, Jr., his only granddaughter Ellie Grace Gonzalez and his youngest daughter Rebecca “Becky” Montalvo and fiancé Gary Abner; his siblings Ernesto Montalvo, Erasmo Montalvo, Irma Molinar, Linda Pena, and Eraldo Montalvo. Rocky was preceded in death by his father Jesus Montalvo, mother Gregoria Jimenez, and brother Herman Montalvo.
In 2017, Rocky retired and spent some of his free time bike riding, playing basketball, playing softball, volunteering for the Animal Care Services (ACS), and of course spending time with his daughters and granddaughter. Together they watched the Dallas Cowboys, went fishing, went for walks, and spent lots of time in their backyard swinging, jumping on the trampoline, riding a Power Wheels Dinosaur, and playing “neighbor” among other things. He was generous, loyal, kind, and the strongest man his children will ever know having beat cancer in April of 2015 and heart surgery in 2016. He will be remembered for his kind heart he lovingly shared with his family and friends. He truly loved all of us - and if you knew him, you knew it.
Services will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238 on Friday, December 29, 2023. There will be a public visitation from 5 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 6 p.m., a ceremony at 6:30 p.m., with a reception to follow. Light refreshments will be served.
He will be cremated and his remains will be interred at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with a Military Honors Ceremony, TBD. He will forever be missed. Until we meet again.
