Eric Gordon Franks, age 64, of Windcrest, Texas passed away on Wednesday

Of July 20, 2022, another Angel was welcomed into heaven.

Eric was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend.

Eric was Married to Lynn Ellen Franks, who passed away in November of 2021. He also has two children, Devon Ray Franks and Shondel Collins, who have given him six grandchildren.

He joined the United States Army Signal Corp, served as an AIT Instructor, and then became an instructor for the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer's Course. Eric served in the military for 22 years and officially retired from the US Army on October 1, 1998. Eric later went back to work for the US Army as a civilian. Eric and his family retired in a little town called Owasso in Oklahoma. Here Eric began his civilian life as a Computer Expert for a company called Tek-System. Eric was later hired to work for the USDA Farm Service agency as the Head Computer expert for the state of Oklahoma.

Moving to Texas, Eric Franks encountered the next big change in his life. He started attending church at St. Anthony De Padua, where he joined the Knights of Columbus. While there, he attended his first ACTS retreat, another significant change in his life. As he went on, he became an ACTS team member helping others as he loved to do.

He also helped with the team for wounded Warriors at BAMC. He also went on to help with The Ministry of the Third Cross for youths, in a halfway house for Kobe Ministry for men in prison.

He was a true soldier, wise, loved, and respected by many. He was always there for those who needed him. He was a man of God who deserved all the love he was given and the love he received.

To continue celebrating his life, Eric is survived by his son Devon Franks and daughter Shondel Collins, grandchildren; Kendra, Alyssa, Lilia, Isaiah, Erica, Elijah, and siblings; Corrie, and Wendy Franks, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by William Barnes & Beverly Franks and older brother Arthur Franks Jr.

A visitation for Eric will be held Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, TX 78209. A rosary service will occur Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, TX 78209. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 15, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at St. Anthony de Padua, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, TX 78209. A committal service will occur Monday, August 15, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at FT. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209. We will be heading back to the Catholic church for the reception.
