In Honor and Loving Memory of Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Erlath W. (Nick) Zuehl Jr. DevotedHusband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Patriot. Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Erlath W. (Nick) Zuehl Jr. passed away surrounded by family, after a life dedicated to service — both to his country and to those he loved. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Nick served with honor and distinction, rising to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted grade in the Air Force.
Born to Lt Col Erlath W. Zuehl and Minnie “Terri” Schramm Zuehl, Nick embodied duty, loyalty, and integrity from a young age. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald R. Zuehl.
Nick served his country with commitment and valor, guiding younger airmen, supporting his fellow service members, and protecting the freedoms we hold dear. His leadership and strength earned him not only accolades, but also the deep respect of all who served alongside him.
Nick is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Lana Zuehl, and his step-daughter Niccole Gillespie.
He is also survived by his previous wife of over 20 years, Kathleen G. James, their children Beverly, Pamela, Erlath W. “Trey” Zuehl III, and Darrell Zuehl, and his children's families.
He was also a proud grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of four — each a source of pride and joy.
Chief Master Sergeant Zuehl’s life was marked by honor, sacrifice, and commitment. He will be remembered as a strong man — a leader, a protector, and above all, a family man.
His family and friends will carry his memory forward by embracing one of his greatest joys—telling his stories and keeping his spirit alive through the words he loved to share.
