Ernest S. Perales, 91, went to be with our Lord on December 8, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Conception Saldivar Perales; his wife of 67 years, Anne Marie Gallegos Perales; daughter, Anne Marie R. Laven, DDS and siblings Juan G. Perales (Maria Perez), Roberto G. Perales (Rosa Maria Pena), Alfonso Perales (surviving partner Elisa Teveni), Infant siblings Consuelo, Aurora, and Alfredo.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. M. Kathleen Perales, son-in-law, Pieter Laven, DDS and grandsons, Aaron and Pieter, siblings John S. Perales, Lydia Rodriguez (Alex –deceased), Robert Perales (Anamaria) and Aurora Miles-Harris (Larry Miles and Leif Harris –deceased) along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He attended Fox Tech High School. He was a lifelong member of St. Henry Catholic Church. Mr. Perales was known for his devotion to his family. He was a child of the Depression and at young age was already contributing to his family by shining shoes in downtown San Antonio, and later by working as a day laborer. He moved north at the age of 16 to work at the Ford factory in Ypsilanti, MI and volunteered with the Army at 18 serving in World War II in the Philippines and Korea obtaining the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and WWII Victory medal. He came back to Texas and worked at Kelly AFB with C5s, radar repair, integrated circuits, and special weapons. He was known as a family man and he cared deeply for his wife and two daughters. Over his 91 years he also built an extended family among the parishioners at St. Henry, he volunteered extensively and helped build the Grotto for the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament with his father. He also was known affectionately by dozens of staff and patrons at Panchitos Restaurant, where he and Anne Marie had breakfast virtually every morning and all the folks at Guadalupe Lumber where he spent many hours. He will be remembered for his story telling, work ethic and love of children, music and dancing. The Visitation will be held Dec 17 from 5-9 pm at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. with a Rosary at 7pm. The Procession will depart from the funeral home on Dec 18 for 10 am Mass at St. Henry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery No.2. Honored pallbearers will be from the Hopkins and Nieto families. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament at 227 Keller Street, San Antonio, Texas 78204.
