He honorably served in the United States Air Force and continued his service with the National Security Agency for a total of 42 years with the federal government. His work took him around the world in dedication to his country, and he carried that sense of duty and pride throughout his life.
Ernie was a proud husband of 47 years to the love of his life, Shirley, sharing a marriage built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support. Together they created a family that became the center of his world.
Nothing brought him more joy than being with his children and especially his grandchildren. He rarely missed a game, concert, performance, or special event, always cheering proudly from the sidelines. His grandchildren knew they could count on him for encouragement, advice, and unconditional love.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and found happiness in kayaking, fishing, camping, and spending time in nature. Whether on the water, firing up the grill, or simply enjoying the fresh air, he was most at peace outdoors.
To his family, friends, and neighbors, he was known as “Mr. Fix-It.” No project was too difficult, no problem too small. He was always the first to lend a hand, offer a tool, or help someone in need. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives.
Ernie also enjoyed the simple routines that made life special, including his beloved weekly trips to Costco and sharing stories with family and friends. He was famous for turning a short story into a long one, usually with humor, detail, and a lesson somewhere along the way.
He will be remembered for his strength, humor, hard work, and endless devotion to the people he loved. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he helped along the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto G. Longoria, Sr. and Ermila Rojas Canales. Ernie is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Longoria; daughters, Miranda Nelka (Keith) and Marcela Ridgely (Jason); grandchildren, Karessa and Garrett Nelka, Madden and Decker Ridgely; sister, Jennifer Villanueva (John); and numerous extended family members and friends.
