Esther was born February 6, 1924 to parents Jose and Theodora Navarro in Taylor, Texas. For 45 years, she enjoyed working as a hairdresser. She would often say the highlight of her career was fixing Lady Bird’s hair when her husband, Lyndon B. Johnson, was at the Fort Sam Hospital.
She would volunteer at the Bexar County Detention Center Ministry and volunteered for 11years as a Eucharistic minister at Downtown Baptist Hospital. After her children married and left home, Esther would teach herself how to play the guitar. Soon she was playing at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles and would play at Cursillo’s retreat, several ACTS retreats as well as St. Patrick and St. Dominic 10AM and 7PM mass respectively. She would also play the San Jose Mission mariachi band; she greatly enjoyed making music for our Lord to hear. She would lovingly call all her children and grandkids “Honey”. She greatly loved her family, friends, and the Lord.
Esther will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May she be playing joyfully with our Father in Heaven.
A visitation for Esther will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 from 5-9PM with a rosary at 7PM at Sunset Funeral Home located at 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
