Esther Gomez Ramos, lovingly known as Libra, a woman full of humor, heart, and grit, entered into the loving arms of Our Lord on June 20, 2025 at the tender age of 71. Born in San Antonio’s West Side on September 28, 1953, Esther was the very definition of a strong, loving matriarch—devoted to her family, full of fire, and always ready with a witty comeback.
Esther had a green thumb like no other. She could bring any plant back to life and grow anything from a simple sprout. Her home bloomed with life, and so did her kitchen. A masterful cook, she was known for her famous menudo, rich mole, cheesy enchiladas, and her uniquely West Side creations like her signature crispy dogs and “grease balls burgers”
Shopping was her therapy, music was her joy, and card games and games like Tetris were her favorite battles. Esther never met a stranger—she was social, generous, and had a natural way of making people feel like family. She had a quick wit and a sharp tongue in the most loving way. You never won an argument with Esther—she always had the last word, and it was usually the funniest one in the room.
Esther met the love of her life in the most unexpected way—through a misdialed phone number that fatefully connected her to Raul Treviño Ramos. At just 15 and 17 years old, they formed a bond that would grow into a lifetime of love. Raul would visit her house persistently, winning her heart one visit at a time. The couple married on October 7, 1974, and went on to raise four children together.
She was a hands-on, all-in kind of mom. Whether it was a school project, a new hobby, or a passing interest, Esther jumped in with both feet, supporting her children in everything they did. Her love didn’t stop with her kids—her grandchildren held a sacred place in her heart. Known as “Santa’s helper,” she always found a way to make their wishes come true, no matter how big or small. Esther also loved her furry companions, finding joy in the company of her dogs.
She will be reunited in heaven with her son, Rene Ramos; cousin/sister in heart, Lydia Reyes and mother, Maria Candelaria Vargas.
Esther’s memory will forever live in her husband of 50 years, Raul Trevino Ramos; children, Raul “Bolie” Ramos Jr., Christine Ramos Gomez (Benjamin Gomez); Daniel Ramos (Catherine); grandchildren, Stephen Ramos, Benjamin Gomez Jr., Justin Gomez and Evelyn Mae De Lara Ramos. Her love will also live on her fur-babies Annie and Bobby; and numerous extended family and friends. Esther leaves behind a legacy that will continue to grow, just like the plants she nurtured and the hearts she touched.
A visitation for Esther will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home. with the a Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. A Mass Of the Resurrection will occur Thursday, July 17, 2025 starting at 9:00 AM at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, with the interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
