Eugene “Bean” Graf age 96 passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was born in Brenham, Texas to Eugene E. and Isabelle Graf on May 7, 1922. He was a beloved brother and uncle who will be dearly missed.
He was one of the last remaining members of the “Greatest Generation”. Eugene served in World War II where his plane was shot down and he was captured by the enemy. He earned the Purple Heart and the P.O.W. Metals as well as losing his left leg. When he returned home he worked for 25 years on Fort Sam Houston in the Quadrangle in Building 44.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene E. and Isabelle Graf; his sister, Isabelle; and his brother, Calvin Graf. He is survived by his siblings, Dorothy Slavin and Edward Graf (Martha); his sister-in-law, Edla Graf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 6th at 10:00 am at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel followed by a Committal Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff of the Audie Murphy V.A. Hospital more specifically the C.L.C. Unit and special thanks to all the doctors and support staff who cared for Eugene during his long, extended stay.
