Gene Krieger was born in Miami, Florida on October 29th, 1938. He was the oldest child of Emory Haw Krieger and Lucille Krieger (nee Connors).
Raised in Miami, Gene enlisted in the military, went to seminary, became a pastor, and then re-joined the military. His career took him to many states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Kansas, Missouri, Alaska, Arizona and Texas (or as he called it, God's Country). He also spent time in the Azores, Portugal and on bases in Germany.
Besides his calling to ministry, Gene's life was also defined by his corny sense of humor and love of being a ham. Compared once to a bantam rooster, he loved to crow like one: morning, noon or night. He loved music, both singing and playing the trumpet, and enjoyed camping and fishing. Other hobbies included raising chickens and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet.
He is survived by his wife, Karion, of New Braunfels and his sons Jason, of Dallas and Scott, of Central Texas. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Audrey and Ethan Krieger, who knew him as "Opa".
A visitation will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 11th at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio (319 E. Mulberry Ave). A service celebrating his life will follow at 3 pm at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either the Trinity Baptist Church Mission Fund or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
