She was born on July 24, 1945 in Edinburgh, Texas to Elvira Martinez and Enrique Herrera. She married Roy Mirl Elledge on April 11th, 1967 in Edinburg. There they began and grew their family until deciding to move to Benham, Texas in 1975.
Eva was an exceptional cook who loved to share her culinary talents. If you were lucky enough to enjoy one of her plate-sized homemade tortillas or her creamy chicken and dumplings, you knew how special the experience was and that she truly made them with love.
You could also find her enjoying the outdoors with friends and family. A lifelong flower enthusiast; the beautiful wildflowers on display each spring in Washington County brought her immense joy, although roses held a special place in her heart. She also loved bird watching, especially when she spotted brilliant red cardinals. A meteorologist at heart, Eva could be relied on to accurately predict the weather patterns time and time again. She loved being in nature and had a particular fondness for the relaxation and serenity she found while fishing.
Throughout life’s joys and challenges, Eva always clung to her faith. All those who knew her, knew how much she loved the Lord. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith. She will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Eva is survived by her daughters, Susan Stratton (Brian) and Sylvia Ramirez; sons, Raymond Elledge (Patty) and Lee Elledge (Deana); brothers, Joe Martinez and Henry Martinez; sisters, Josephine Gonzalez and Rosa Canales; and numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
