Evangeline “Eve” Mae Summers passed on to glorious heaven on February 23, 2017. She was born Evangeline Hancock on June 8, 1922 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She is survived by her children Marcia Barker, Michele Martin, Dr. Dale Solomon and wife Diane, Phillip Solomon and wife Joan, Renee McLaughlin and husband Matt; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Eve was raised during the depression on a hardscrabble farm by adoptive parents, but God’s grace and her intelligence, charisma, and initiative destined her for greater things. She graduated from the University of Missouri, later obtaining her Masters of Social Work. For 20 years she was a Psychiatric Social Worker at the Houston VA while she raised her five children. After retirement, she energetically pursued diverse passionate interests including returning to college in her 80’s.
Her family delighted in her fun, creative and free spirit. Like the butterflies she loved, beautiful Eve constantly sought out the lovely and sweet while refusing to be contained. We are thankful she is now free to enjoy the gardens of heaven.
A celebration service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas.
