Evelyn Shannon Hutchinson, age 83, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2007 in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by husbands, Dustin Gorden, 1989, and Edgar Hutchinson, 1994. She was born to Charles Shannon and Minne C. Badon in the Parish of Orleans and the City of New Orleans on March 27, 1924. Evelyn and her two sisters were reared by her Uncle Jim and Aunt Anna in Tulsa, OK, where she graduated from high school. She attended nursing school at the University of Texas in Austin, Tx. Evelyn was very interested in politics. She was an avid listener of talk radio and enjoyed offering her opinion on numerous topics. Evelyn began a retail career by managing Chiquita Exports in Central Park Mall. She continued this interest by discovering her true passion for sales by opening an antique and collectables business in Bulverde, TX. Evelyn loved her pets, especially her boxers, Bo and Sam. She maintained a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was a firm believer in introducing the word of God to all with whom she came in contact. Evelyn has been lovingly cared for most recently by Jesus Marcos and Trey Hassell who saw to it that she looked and felt her best every day. Evelyns' three children, Dustin, Gary and Yvonne, admired, honored and respected this hard-working mother. Evelyn was proud to talk to her son Dustin about his architecture projects. She knew he was always devoted to her in prayer and loving spirit. And how she looked forward to her daily ice cream trips to the Dairy Queen with Gary! Of course, these outings often ended with the "honey-do" list ~ plumbing, electrical, etc! Gary kept her spirits up with his sharp wit and funny anecdotes and could always bring a smile of recollection to his mother's face. Yvonne and Evelyn became the "dynamic duo!" The long talks, the trips, the shopping excursions, the "make-up, nails, and hair-do days," the laughter, and the prayer sessions continued throughout Evelyn's illness. They shared a special bond known only between a mother and daughter. She is survived by sons, Dustin C. Gorden and wife, Bonnie, Gary Gordon and wife, Jeanie; daughter, Yvonne Shirey and husband, Allen; grandchildren, Lisa Madrigale and husband Bob, Leah Mealiffe and husband, Gavin, Alaina Sponaugle and husband, Brian, Shannon Webb and husband, Jeff, Aaron Shirey, Jason Gorden and wife, Shannon; six great-grandchildren, Austin and Justin Madrigale, Brandt and Evan Dustin Mealiffe, Joshua Webb, and River Sponaugle; sisters, Estelle Dewey and Florence Brandt; numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn's nephews, Tommy and Chuck Dewey of Universal City, TX honored their aunt's memory by giving a celebration dinner after the services at the Acapulco Restaurant with fish they had caught themselves.
