May 10. 1924 – July 29, 2022
Evelyn passed away July 29,2022 in her adopted city of San Antonia, Texas. She was born on May 10, 1924 in Raeford, North Carolina to the late Nora Belle and David Alexander Smith.
Evelyn lived a wonderful life of adventure and love for her many friends and family. She never met a stranger and was ever so passionate about living a full life. She was known at one of her two churches, that she loved dearly, as the Rummikub Queen, a favorite pastime.
She is remembered especially by the Bible verse Matthew 25:21:
“Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share your master's happiness.” Which is exactly what she did. What a blessing she was throughout her life. She left her friends and family with awesome memories!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband George H. Knapp, second husband Jesse W. Kelly and daughter Sharon Kelly Pena.
Evelyn is survived by children Shirley Brutko (Mal) of Kings Mountain, NC; Barry Knapp of San Antonio, TX; David Knapp (Kay) of Live Oak, TX; Steve Kelly (Linda) of San Antonio, TX and Saundra Wilson (David) of Inverness, FL. She has 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held August 16th 2022 at:
Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry Ave., San Antonio, TX. 78212
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9 – 11am followed by a celebration of life from 11 – 12 noon. A reception will follow immediately in the Trinity Church reception hall.
A private family burial will occur at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
