Evelyn Loyce Riggs, affectionately known as Loyce to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 97. Born in San Antonio, Texas on July 8th, 1927, Loyce was one of four children graced to the loving family of Burt B. Isenhour and Ivy Ellen Gray. She knew Jesus as her Savior and is now in the presence of the Lord.
Loyce's life was marked by devotion—a dedicated housewife, Mom, and Mimi. She and William Burkett Riggs married February 24th, 1946, in a beautiful ceremony at First Baptist Church of San Antonio, presided over by Dr. Perry F. Webb. They celebrated more than 77 years together, and were blessed with a son, Michael Wade.
Beyond her family, Loyce had a passion for sewing. A talented seamstress, she not only mastered patterns but also delighted in creating her own unique designs. Known for her exceptional hospitality and cooking, Loyce was an excellent hostess of Bunco nights. Those who knew her best would describe Loyce as kind, loving, witty, creative, adventurous, and prayerful.
Loyce and Burkett shared a love of adventure. They enjoyed traveling the United States and cruising the world. They were avid Baylor football season ticket holders for decades. Some of their favorite times were spent at their cabin in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado, often with family and friends.
Loyce is survived by her son, Michael Wade Riggs and his wife, Leslyn Riggs; granddaughters, Ashley Riggs, Abbey Riggs Rzepecki and her husband, Jack Rzepecki; along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to personally thank Paulette Johnson with Comfort Keepers, Compassion Hospice, Suncrest Hospice, and Diana Marrow with Laurelhurst Assisted Living for their excellent, loving care of Loyce.
Loyce Riggs was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of San Antonio since April 1946 and will be remembered for her love of family, friends, her country, and Lord. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.
