Maria Fermina Nieto, also known as Fermina, entered into her eternal rest with the Lord on September 26, 2025 at the age of 72. She was born on July 7, 1953 to parents, Norberta Tobias and Domingo Nieto in Matamoros, Mexico. Fermina is leaving behind a legacy of faith, wisdom, and love that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and community.
Fermina was the spiritual cornerstone of her family, providing not only religious guidance but also a steady source of wisdom, humor, and care. She was intellectual by nature, a deep thinker who loved reading on a wide range of subjects—from religion and politics to history and autobiographies. She had a gift for making others laugh with her sharp wit and warm sarcasm, always delivered in the most loving way.
A woman of faith and service, Fermina studied at the Lay Ministries Institute for two years and was deeply involved in St. Timothy church community. She proudly served as a Guadalupana and shared her faith through her dedication and presence. She volunteered with COPS/Metro from 1975 to 2000, working alongside others to build trust and bring together people across diverse faith, racial, and economic lines to improve the city.
Fermina worked at AT&T for 29 years before her retirement, where she was known for her hard work and dedication. In her free time, she enjoyed music of many kinds—rancheras, classical, and even opera tunes filled her days. She loved puzzles, always challenging her mind, and her family knew they could come to her for answers to just about anything.
Above all, Fermina was generous with her love, her time, and her knowledge. She was her family’s guiding light, the one who offered wisdom, laughter, and unwavering faith.
She will be reunited in heaven with her parents Norberta and Domingo Nieto; and brother-in-law, David Herrera.
Fermina will always be remembered by her siblings, Cristina Herrera, Julie Salinas (David), Felix Nieto, and Domingo Nieto Jr. Nieces, Monica (Javier) Michelle (Greg), Elizabeth (Isaiah), Elizabeth (Leo); nephews, Steven (Tiffany), Ruben (Sabrina), and David Anthony (Priscilla); 14 great nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and extended family members. Her presence will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched in her journey.
