

Master Sergeant Fernando J. Medellin, Sr. passed peacefully in his home on Thursday, June 8, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. Fernando was happily married for 59 years to the love of his life, his wife Olga Olivo. He was born in San Antonio on December 28, 1933 to Jose Medellin and Amalia Palomo. He graduated from Harlandale High School and left home to serve in the US Marine Corp and deployed to the Korean War. Upon completing his commitment, he returned home and joined the Marine Corp Reserve until 1981 with the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division. In addition, he selflessly served his country as a Non Destructive Airplane Inspector at Kelly AFB for over 29 years and supported the Gulf War efforts in Germany. Fernando also spent several years in the private sector continuing to keep aircraft safely in the air in Oklahoma and Honduras. Upon his retirement, he continued his many hobbies and was passionate about traveling, music, his pets, building his home and especially his family. He is preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth Medellin. He is survived by his wife Olga P. Medellin; children Fernando J. Medellin Jr. (Theresa), Phillip G. Medellin (Edna), Elva M. Zdeb (Mark Henry), John M. Medellin, Herlinda M. Trevino (George), Silvia Gaucin and Kurt Zdeb; grandchildren, Bryan Medellin (Melissa), Rizalina Medellin, Lisa Timmer (Chris), Richard Montalbo (Cindy), Heather Holguin (Trinidad), Phillip Medellin Jr., Olivia Zdeb, Maya Zdeb, Noah Candido and Gregory Trevino; great grandchildren, Bryan Medellin Jr., William Timmer and Marley Timmer; sister Yolanda Triana. The Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 pm Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd. with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The Procession will depart from the funeral home on Thursday, June 22 at 11:45 am for a 12:30 pm. Mass of the Resurrection at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 236 E. Petaluma, San Antonio TX 78221. Interment will follow in FT. Sam Houston National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Harlandale Civic Center from 4-7pm.
