

Florence was born on November 27, 1922 to Dorothy and Archie F. Weatherford in San Marcos, TX. The first ten years of her life were spent living on ranches at Dilley and Derby, TX. The family then moved to San Marcos where she lived until her marriage to Joseph B. Berrong on October 31, 1943.
She and her husband, who predeceased her in 2008, were married for almost 65 years. They worked with and donated to many charitable and service organizations over the years. Florence was a member of University Methodist Church in Austin TX.
She graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. While a student, she was chosen as a Gaillardian, cited in the publication “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities” and received many other honors.
She taught school in Anchorage, AK, Pflugerville, TX and Austin public schools for a total of twenty-two years. She was an enthusiastic volunteer at Holy Cross and Seton Hospitals in Austin. She was active in several Masonic wives’ organizations.
Her skills and hobbies included: cooking, sewing, upholstering and refinishing furniture, oil painting and playing the piano and flute.
Florence is survived by her three children and their spouses: Dr. Joseph M. Berrong and wife, Phyllis; Dorothy Cramer and husband, Robert; and Cynthia E. Berrong. Four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, brother, Dr. Jack Weatherford and wife, Laura and sister, Catherine Martin, also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Dorothy, brothers Lt. Col. Sydney Weatherford, Kenneth Weatherford and David Weatherford.
