

Frances Helland Watts died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at the age of 88. She was born November 27, 1918 to Mr. and Mrs. H.R.F. Helland of San Antonio. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Graham Watts; son, James Richard Watts and a brother, James Hans Helland.
Her love of people and animals led to a lifetime of volunteer work. She was a member of the Junior League of San Antonio, the Petroleum Club, and the 100 Club. She was also a member and past president of the Battle of Flowers Association, the Military-Civilian Club, Live Oak Garden Club, Northwest Kianns, San Antonio Kianns, and Travis Elementary School PTA. She also served on numerous boards during her lifetime such as the United Way, Red Cross, Family Welfare Association, Protestant Children's Home, and Southwest Foundation Forum. She was a docent at the San Antonio Zoo for over 20 years, and was an active member of the Humane Society.
As a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, she was president of the Junior Guild, now known as Mary Marthas Guild. She was also active in the early years of the Lenten Luncheons where she waited tables and served as cashier.
She is survived by three children: Robert G. Watts, Jr. of San Antonio; John Mason Watts and wife, Linda of Kerrville; and a daughter, Karen Marie Watts of San Antonio; a grandson, Graham Ambrosino of Houston; one brother Richard Erling Helland and his wife, Julie of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Patty Helland of San Antonio; a cousin, Lucile Helland of San Antonio; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 24, 2007 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
