Francis Laubach was a woman devoted to her family, her friends and to her Lord. She focused her life to care for the blessings of her family in a selfless and enduring manner. She was an avid outdoorsman and shared those joys with her best friend, and love of her life, Gilbert. In their almost 70-year romance, and 65 years of marriage, they water skied, snow skied, white water rafted, hunted, fished and rode horses. The daughter of a veterinarian, she had an incredible love of animals, which she passed on to her family. She was forever raising puppies, kitties and most importantly her horses; and she worked with Gilbert on raising their cattle. She and Gilbert loved to dance; country and western dancing and square dancing from their teens to their 80s.
Francis spent countless hours donating her time to church, civic and youth activities in addition to raising the family with Gilbert and helping him with his business. She led cub scouts and 4-H groups, helped with horse and stock shows and FFA, served as alter guild chair, and served on many church councils. She volunteered within her bible study group to provide care for those in need. She and Gilbert visited many who were ill or needing help. She shared her faith by love in action.
Gilbert and Francis provided a safe and nurturing environment for all of their grandchildren during their formative years. All four grandchildren grew up from infancy through elementary school on the nine acres that ‘Ammy’ and ‘Ampy’ called home. They were loved without reservation and could run through the field, bursting through the back door to receive a smile, a hug, and a treat from Ammy. Multiple generations were taken fishing, hunting, skiing and horseback riding by Ammy and Ampy in sharing their passions for the great outdoors.
Francis was born in Hondo Texas on November 20, 1935, to Lucian Alfred Dunbar DVM and Myrtle Louise Stearns Dunbar. She ended her long battle with Alzheimer’s on August 14, 2021, at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband Gilbert Laubach, and their children: Roy Blaine Laubach (Karen O’Connor), and Wanda Laubach McCarthy (Mark). She is also survived by grandchildren: Blaine Laubach, Lynze Laubach Morris (Chris), Megan McCarthy Bennett (Cayce), and Marissa McCarthy; great-grandchildren: Kelton Morris, Ella Morris, Hayden Laubach and Colton Laubach; her sisters, her sister and brother in laws, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Francis always tried to have an encouraging word for everyone. Her vivid blue eyes would sparkle with love for Gilbert, family and friends, and she would shine her vibrant smile upon them. She lived a full life, and we are so very blessed to have shared it.
