Frank was born on May 14, 1929 in Abilene, Texas to Irene and Terrence Edmondson. He graduated from Abilene High School and then entered the U.S. Army and served in Italy from 1946 through 1947. Upon his release from the Army he entered the Army Reserves and enrolled at Texas A&M University. In 1950 his reserve unit was called up for the Korean War where his unit serviced the famous Mash unit. In 1951 he returned to civilian life and resumed his studies toward a civil engineering degree. As his class at A&M had moved on without him he decided to pursue his degree at Texas Technological College in Lubbock. He always proudly pointed out to friends that his degree was from Texas Tech when it was just a college. Upon his graduation in 1955 he went to work for Gulf Oil in west Texas as an engineer. In 1958 he accepted a position with the Corp of Engineers in Galveston, Texas and later that year he moved from the coast to San Antonio to begin his career with the U.S. Air Force as a Civil Engineer at Randolph AFB. Later he accepted a position at Brooks AFB. After 31 years with the government, he retired from Brooks in 1989 as the Deputy Base Civil Engineer.
While working at Randolph he met and married his beloved wife Lou and became the proud father of her two sons, Jesse and Tom. A year later they welcomed Robert into the family.
Frank stayed busy with family activities, coaching flag football, assisting with scouting activities and cheering on the Alamo Heights High School and Spurs basketball teams. He also found time for his many outdoor activities.
Frank is a member of Shepherd King Lutheran Church and was formerly active with the San Antonio Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife Lou, sons Jesse and wife Lena from San Antonio; Tom from Austin, and Robert and spouse Pat from Portland, OR. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Mina Edmondson, Austin; Presley and Linda Chesser, San Antonio; and Shaun and Jen Chesser, Summerville, SC. He was also blessed with seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law Betty and Tommy Adkins, Georgetown; sister Emogene Adams, Arlington, TX; sister-in-law Jeanelda Darling, Beaumont; brother-in-law Elwood Preiss, Arlington, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. We would be remiss not to mention his two beloved dachshunds Cash and Willow. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gene Edmondson.
