

On May 13, 2005 a brave and ever smiling Frank Gilbert Elder, Jr. passed away at his home with his family by his side. He was loved and respected by many. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Kathleen Vought Elder; 2 sons, Frank Gilbert Elder III and Robert William Elder and his wife, Edna Elizabeth; grandson, Austin William Elder and a host of devoted, friends, neighbors and his D.P.S. family.
Frank was born in Laredo, Texas to Frank Gilbert Elder, Sr. and Gladyse Mills Elder on January 16, 1951, residing on Lane Street. Frank graduated from J.W. Nixon High School in 1969. He attended Texas A&I in Laredo, Texas where he received a degree in Business. An avid outdoorsman, camper and water skier, Frank had a "Possum Like" grin which won the hearts of many a stranger.
He met Kathy in El Paso where they were married June 13, 1981. They later moved to San Antonio.
Frank was assistant Chief of the Driver License Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, with over 30 years of devoted service.
Frank was honored to be appointed by Governor Rick Perry to be a representative on the Texas Online Authority Board.
His greatest honor was serving as a devoted father.
Frank was happiest camping and hunting with his son. He enjoyed boating at Canyon Lake, water skiing and loving the Texas outdoors.
The family wishes to thank all of their family and friends for the support and prayers during his courageous battle, with sincere appreciation to Dr. David Gordon M.D.; his staff and Hospice of San Antonio for their unselfish care.
