Frank I. Gonzales marked the end of a joyous life on Friday, August 11, 2017. He was born on November 5, 1923 to Francisco and Maria Gonzales in Seguin, Texas and is now reunited in heaven with his beloved son, Daniel Gonzales, sisters Dora Gonzales, Mary Espino, and brothers Ilario, Robert and Jacob Gonzales.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Mary S. Gonzales, sisters Rosa Cortinas, Flora Mendez and sister-in-law Victoria Rojas, daughters Gilda Bratt, husband Burt, Della May Moore, husband John, Grandchildren; John Moore, wife Cynthia; Maricela Moore, Monica Gonzalez, husband Michael and six great-grandchildren, Danny and Gracie Moore, Tito and Natalia Siewczynski, Melia and Mikey Gonzalez and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank served in the Army Air Corp and upon his discharge as a veteran of World War II, he continued to hone his skills in aviation and systems repair. In 1947, he married Mary Soto and ventured west to California to work for the Flying Tigers in civil aviation; where he earned his pilot's license. In 1949, Tom Slick, founder of the Southwest Research Center, recruited Frank back to San Antonio to serve as a lead in a government contract in civil aviation and support systems. Frank later devoted 35 years to civil service at Kelly Air Force Base, specializing in air craft sheet metal repair.
Frank's emotions were always transparent and one knew how he felt by the sparkle in his blue eyes. He loved and lived life to its fullest and he always greeted family and friends with a kind smile and a warm saludo. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying deep sea fishing, boating and skiing, hunting and primitive camping.
There were few challenges he could not analyze and solve. Frank was an excellent mechanic and generously gave assistance to family, friends and neighbors without hesitation. He was San Antonio's Senior Olympics Billiards Champion in the 80's and Poteet's Golf Champion at the age of 79.
Family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Mariann Serna for the care and love she showed Frank and to Holy Savior Hospice and specifically to RN Lorena Iniguez for her professional skills and her carino.
