Born on February 19th, 1932 in Greenville, South Carolina, Frank was the youngest of four children born to Daisy Elizabeth Williams and Ralph Nathan McDonald. His roots in Greenville laid the foundation for the strong dependable man he became. Frank is preceded by both his parents, his oldest brother Dallas McDonald, his sister Kathryn Hill, his sister Nelle Butler, his son Colin McDonald and his grandson Michael McDonald.
At 17 years of age Frank enlisted into the Army and was sent to Germany on his first tour of military duty. Upon his return stateside he assumed a route delivery job where he met the love of his life Jeannette Richardson and was married June 28, 1955.
Shortly after marrying Jeannette Frank re-enlisted into the armed forces, this time joining the Air Force, creating a marriage filled with love and adventure. They lived overseas for eleven years primarily stationed in Scotland, England and Germany. Each assignment provided the opportunity to travel, meet new friends and embrace the cultures and experiences each new country offered them. Frank, as part of his work, was also given frequent temporary duty assignments allowing him to explore both Asia and the Middle East.
A devout Christian and Veteran, Frank served our nation with distinction and honor for over 40 years, retiring at the highest enlisted rank of Chief Senior Master Sgt. He was awarded numerous medals throughout his career. One of note being the Meritorious Service Award for outstanding achievement and performance of duty of significant responsibility. After his retirement from military service, Frank continued to serve his community by providing leadership as a member of the Finance Committee for the Woodlands Baptist Church.
Frank was a man of few words, but those he spoke were impactful and often accompanied by a quick wit that lit up any room. Franks stoic nature was balanced by a gentle kindness that endeared him to everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, and an adored grandfather, Frank's life was a testament to the power of love, loyalty, and service. Franks legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and everyone who knew him.
Frank leaves behind his wife, Jeannette, to carry on the love story they began sixty-eight years ago. Along with his wife, Frank is survived by his children Dara Clark (Jeff) of Lake St. Louis MO, Captain Keith McDonald (Diane) of Canyon Lake TX; grandchildren Ryan Swanner (Aimee) of Rockport TX, Dylan Ornelas (Ariana) of Boerne TX, Evan McDonald of Savannah GA, Adian McDonald of West Chester PA, Rowan McDonald of Savannah GA; bonus grandchildren Delfino Ornelas III of San Antonio TX, Vanessa Lopez of San Antonio TX; and his two great grandchildren Ethan Swanner and Vance Swanner of Rockport TX.
As a fitting way to honor a man who spent his life in service to others, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Frank lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. His memory will forever be a beacon of light and inspiration for all who knew him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to guide us on our own journeys. Frank will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
