

.Frank John Quirk, Jr. was born on the banks of the San Antonio River (Nix Hospital) on October 10, 1939. He led a full and interesting life from then until February 15, 2014. His parents were Frank Quirk, Sr. and Rosemary Clopton Quirk. He is now with his father and his sister, Mary Burns Quirk Jones, but his mother is still playing bridge.
Frank attended St. Anthony’s and St. Peter’s catholic schools and Alamo Heights High School and graduated from AHHS in 1957. He earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961. Like his father, he was a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He also attended UTSA for graduate accounting courses.
After graduation from college, he entered the fledgling computer industry and was involved in computers and software his entire life. Immediately out of college, he went to Coco Beach, FL to work in the early space program. He also worked as a System Engineer and System Analyst for companies such as IBM, LTV, Affiliated Computer Services and University Computing. He served as President of Systems Processing, Inc., Q-Systems, Inc. and Query, Inc. He was serving as President of AccountiX, Inc., an accounting software company, at the time of his death.
Frank was a passionate photographer. He traveled to Africa and other places to take pictures. His photos can be viewed at www.photosbyfjq.com.
Frank was an avid bicycle rider. He proudly participated in the Hotter N Hell 100 race in Wichita Falls for many years as well as many other bicycle rides and events both here and in Europe. He was a member of the San Antonio Wheelmen.
Frank loved animals. He leaves behind Oscar, his parrot, Max, his Afghan and numerous Koi. At one point he raised and raced greyhounds.
Frank is survived by his mother Rosemary C. Quirk, daughter Terry Lynn Quirk, his brothers Thomas E. Quirk and his wife Ann-Marie “Sam” Aaron, Robert C. Quirk and his wife Karen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank requested that no formal funeral service or memorial ceremony take place but asked that an informal gathering of family and friends be held. The gathering to honor Frank’s full and interesting life will take place on March 2, 2014, Texas Independence Day, (Frank would be proud) between 2 and 5 at the home of his brother Thomas E. Quirk at 202 Oak Glen Dr., San Antonio, TX 78209. Please RSVP to [email protected].
